It seems to me the issue is one of utility. For most folks, the computer is technology, a tool. And this is true. But the same could be said of the humanities. When we listen to popular music, go to the museum, or read a work of fiction, we are benefiting from the humanities (as a tool and technology). And yet, mathematics and science are deeper to be found underneath the hood of technology.
